"Yayas - A group of three or more women whose hearts and souls are joined together by laughter and tears shared through the glorious journey of life."

This project is unequivocally hand-on-heart inspired by all the women who have become my friends, my mentors, my unwavering support and my sisters.

While raising my three girls and observing them navigate the murky waters of growing up as a girl in this current model of society, I couldn’t help but feel something was missing. I had experienced such magic transpire from sitting in circle with women; judgement and ego vanished, equilibrium restored, inspiration and celebration of one another – and I wanted my girls to experience this too. However, I didn’t want them to have to wait until their 20s [or beyond!] to find and experience that safe space of being SEEN, HEARD, HELD & CELEBRATED.

Young girls today are bombarded with so much noise – pressure on WHAT to be while forgetting WHO they could be [and ARE]. I wanted to create a space where young girls could be positively imprinted from an early age to sink into the importance of collaboration over competition, connection, self-awareness, [young] women supporting [young] women, healthy friendships, self-care, goal setting, gratitude practices and body positivity.

So here we are.

The Yaya Sisterhood is a space that invites young girls to walk into the door and ‘just BE’. There is no hierarchy, no cliques and titles of ‘school captain’ / ‘the smart one’ / ‘the big sister’ / ‘the lonely one’ / ‘the one who doesn’t like sports’ and so on are null and void.

In a society that edges towards glorifying ‘busy and ‘success’; with parents signing their children up to all the extra curricular activities and tournaments – the Yaya Sisterhood Empowerment Workshops and sharing circles are designed to scale it back.

>> What happens at a workshop? <<

We connect, we share, we encourage, we explore topics, we craft, we laugh we eat, we dance, we reflect, we trust, we listen, we hold space, we celebrate.

🌻 The workshop is designed for 9-12 year old girls to come together in circle and discuss topics such as; body positivity, self-care, healthy friendships, individual self-worth, social media safety, growth mindset & more.

🌻 We explore these topics by sharing experiences in a safe circle setting open for all to discuss, observe and contribute in whatever way they feel comfortable.

🌻 Zero-pressure and zero- judgement zone.

🌻 Each participant takes home a booklet that has the content we covered [so you are aware of what was discussed and shared. And the booklet can be used as reference to continue these topics in the home].

🌻 There is a variety of activities we partake in over various workshops including; crafting, natural cosmetic making, vision boards, flower crowns.

Hand on heart GRATEFUL that this project has been so well received; here’s to watching society shift, as it adjusts to all the empowered young girls who will grow up unapologetically occupying their space in this World.

The Yaya Sisterhood will undoubtably grow, evolve, shift and change over time: but for today – a safe space exists for young girls to come together and sink into the beauty of sisterhood while being encouraged to show up [and be celebrated!] exactly as they are.

And for today, that is enough.
